Are you in fear today? If you are it is only because you do not have the knowledge of how much God loves you. You may have heard about it, but you have never had the revelation. I was struggling with some deep depression about 24 years ago. It was so bad I had thoughts of ending my life. I was newly saved at the time and was dealing with a lot of fear in my life. Most of those fears were not reality but, they seemed like it. They were primarily based on my thought life which at that point was running wild. The reason why I had so much fear in my life was because I was lacking knowledge of God. For most of us we go through life saying we believe in God but, when our life depends on it we would rather depend on what we know. We lack the knowledge of God’s peace. Our faith in God is only limited by us. The peace that we desire is only limited by us. I am not talking about peace that comes from financial security because, if that is where your peace is, what is going to happen if the money all goes away some day? I am talking about the peace that comes from knowing that God is in control of your life.

(Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.

I have learned that when things are going good I have a tendency to just lay back and relax. It is alright to relax, but we should be relaxing in God. When things are going good, God can be put on the back burner and when we do that we start to depend on reasoning to solve the answers to any questions we may have. This is dangerous because it involves our own understanding and lacks in trusting God. The scripture says that we should acknowledge Him in ALL things. Think about it for one moment. Does God have any needs? Is God lacking in any area at all? The answer is, NO. Why do we want to depend on our understanding when God who is all sufficient can be directing our paths?

We had to take our daughter to New York to start college. We did not have the money to take her out there. We did not lean upon our own understanding because our understanding would have told us that we were not going. A few weeks before we were to take her out there we receive an unexpected check in the mail. It was the exact amount that we had believed for. It did not come from anything we earned or from someone we knew. It was truly unexpected. There were other unexplained miracles that happened during that trip as well. If we had leaned upon our own understanding she would have never made it to New York. God is not in a box, we only put Him in one and then expect Him to spring out when we need Him. God is bigger than life itself.

Our understanding comes from what we experience. If all we experience is bad then our understanding will not be very reliable or good. Our understanding will hold us captive to its limited view. God has a much greater view than us. God does not see us how we were or how we are. God is not constricted by time. He is already in our tomorrow. He sees us as a finished work and He has the power to take us there. So it does not matter what we think or understand because God is bigger than that. If you desire true peace, lean not upon your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct the paths of your life.
