Did you know there is a physical and spiritual connection between 2 major topics found in the Bible? The 2 topics I am referring to are the heart, and the tongue. I came across this after my baby son had open heart surgery. My son developed airway issues post-operatively and the cause was due to trauma of his Left and Right Recurrent Laryngeal Nerves. These are the nerves that service the left and right vocal cords. The trauma paralyzed both of my son’s vocal cords causing many trips to the ER for the next couple years as a result of his airway being compromised. Confused about how an incision in the chest could cause vocal cord paralysis, I did some research. To my surprise I found that the nerves for the vocal cords don’t run horizontally to the Vagus nerve nor prone to the spine, but downward. If you look at the picture you will see both nerves run down from the larynx and wrap around two major vessels, the Left Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve wraps around the Aortic Arch off the top of the heart and the Right Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve wraps around the Right Subclavian Artery. After they wrap around the major arteries they join up with the Right and Left Vagus Nerves respectfully. What is the significance of this mapping of the nerves I just described? The Lord pointed out to me a spiritual truth with the information I just laid out. In Luke 6:45 the Bible tells us that out of the abundance of heart the mouth speaks. The nerves from our vocal cords run downward to interact with our heart. Out of the abundance of our heart our vocal cords will respond. This is powerful because God proves a spiritual truth through physical life. The Bible teaches that the condition of our heart can affect our speech. My son's heart condition affected his speech because the vocal cord nerves wrap around structures of the heart were damaged when his chest was spread open. So, physically and spirtiually our hearts are directly connected to our vocal cords (tougue). God's grand design is always displayed in his creation. Another scripture that always made me think was Proverbs 23:7 which states, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." How can we have thoughts in our heart? More research about this truth gave me more revelation about the God's grand design of the heart. New research as found that the human heart has a very complex network of about 40,000 neurons known as the intrinsic cardiac nervous system also known as "The Little Brain of the Heart." Here is a link for that research: https://research.jefferson.edu/2022-magazine/the-hearts-little-brain.html heart contains its own complex network of about 40,000 neurons, known as the intrinsic cardiac nervous system or the "little brain on the heart
