God definitely carried me through my 53 years of life. For years I always wondered why I survived all of the things that could have clearly killed me. I experienced 5 accidents, 4 in automobiles and one on a snowmobile. I also battled depression and thoughts of suicide for more than 25 years. The answer came to me several years ago in an unexpected place. My wife and I were attending a wedding for my first cousin’s son. During the dance we were sitting with my cousin and his wife and the topic of my wild childhood came up. I brought up the fact that I was so surprised by the fact that I had survived all my reckless endeavors. My cousin (who at the time of my teen years lived down the street from my house) began to smile and then he shared with my wife and I that when they would see me leave to go to town they would pray over me. It made perfect sense now. Prayer saved me. God was able to intervene in my life because someone took the time to pray.
Years later I was involved in ministry where we rented a conference room in one of the local hotels for our services. It meant that every weekend, for 4 years was dedicated to 3 hours on Saturday night for setting everything up and 1 ½ hours every Sunday for tearing everything down and putting it away again. After 4 years we finally moved into our own building and all the time dedicated to setting up and tearing down was now behind us. I told my pastor that I couldn’t believe we did that for so long and had the strength to do it every weekend. Now I felt no desire to do it anymore which came at the right time. My pastor’s response was, “God’s Grace was no longer available for doing it.” I had a revelation that very moment. I never did it by my own strength; God had supplied the strength and desire for the time it was needed to move into our own building.
In reflection, God’s Grace carried me through everything I encountered in life. When there seemed to be no excuse for living God’s Grace carried me through until someone showed me the path of peace and deliverance. God’s Grace saved me from every accident I had ever encountered because someone took the time to pray for me. Allow God’s Grace to flow in your life and the life of those you love. Take a few minutes every day and pray for the well being and salvation of people. We are God’s mouth piece and hands on the earth until Jesus’ return.
